Introduction [00:00]

Hey there, tech enthusiasts and content creators! Today, we’re exploring Zync, a browser-based video creation studio that’s making waves in the short-form content world. Currently available as a lifetime deal on AppSumo, Zync promises to streamline your video production process. In this review, I’ll be putting it through its paces and giving you my honest thoughts.

Key points:

  • Zync: A browser-based video creation tool
  • Focus on short-form content
  • Currently offered as an AppSumo lifetime deal
  • Sponsored review, but maintaining honest opinions

Setup [00:55]

Setting up your Zync account is a straightforward process that starts with creating your creator profile. I entered my name, company (ClientAmp LLC), and uploaded a profile picture. The next step is to add your content pillars – the main topics you’ll be creating content around.

Setup process:

  • Create creator profile (name, company, profile picture)
  • Add at least three content pillars
  • My choices: Lifetime deals, Open source software, Email marketing
  • Set up brand kit
  • Choose primary and accent colors
  • Upload logo

After setting up your content pillars, you’ll move on to creating your brand kit. This is where you choose your primary and accent colors, which will be used in your video graphics. You can also upload your logo here. I went with my That LTD Life logo and picked colors that match my brand.

Turning Idea to Video [02:31]

Once you’re all set up, you’re taken to the main interface. It’s sleek and almost Tron-like in its design. Zync offers a few ways to get started, but I decided to try out the “Turn an idea into a video” feature.

Key features:

  • Sleek, intuitive interface
  • “Turn an idea into a video” feature
  • Enter a topic (I used “Ghost CMS”)
  • Zync generates a video outline
  • AI-generated video title and script

I entered “Ghost CMS” as my topic, and Zync quickly generated a video outline for me. The title it came up with was “What makes Ghost CMS a good choice for content creators?” Pretty spot on, I’d say! Along with the title, Zync provides a full script that you can use as-is or modify to fit your style.

Sessions [04:02]

With our idea in place, it’s time to start a session. Zync gives you two options here: jump straight into recording or do a rehearsal. Being the consummate professional that I am (ahem), I decided to try out the rehearsal feature first.

Session options:

  • Rehearsal mode
  • Live recording mode

The rehearsal mode is a great way to get comfortable with the interface and practice your delivery before the actual recording.

A/V Setup [04:22]

In both the rehearsal and live studios, you can set up your audio and video. It’s similar to platforms like Zoom or Google Meet. You can choose your microphone and camera, and there’s even an option for background blur.

A/V setup features:

  • Microphone selection
  • Camera selection
  • Background blur option
  • Speaker setup

Pro tip: Make sure you’re using a good external microphone. I initially used my iPhone’s mic, and while it works, a dedicated mic will give you much better audio quality.

Rehearsal Studio [05:11]

The rehearsal studio is a valuable feature that allows you to get comfortable with the Zync interface and practice your delivery. You can see how you’ll look in both landscape and portrait orientations, which is crucial for creating content that works across different platforms.

Rehearsal studio benefits:

  • Practice delivery without recording
  • Preview landscape and portrait orientations
  • Familiarize yourself with the interface

One thing I noticed during my rehearsal: I was looking down a lot to read the script. This is easily fixable by positioning your screen closer to your camera, but it’s something to keep in mind for a more engaging final video.

Live Studio [06:54]

After the rehearsal, it’s time for the real deal. The live studio looks similar to the rehearsal studio, but now when you hit record, it’s for keeps.

Live studio features:

  • Similar interface to rehearsal studio
  • Option to follow AI-generated script or ad-lib
  • Multiple takes allowed (only the last recording is final)

Zync provides a script based on your initial idea, which you can follow closely or use as a general guide. I went for a mix of both, adding my own flair to the Ghost CMS topic. A cool feature here is that you can do multiple takes. Only the last recording is considered final, so you can keep going until you’re happy with your delivery.

Content Kit [09:23]

Once you’ve finished recording, Zync starts working its magic. It generates what it calls a “Content Kit” – a collection of bite-sized content clips, social media posts, posters, and thumbnails.

Content Kit includes:

  • YouTube clips
  • Short video
  • Tweet for Twitter
  • TikTok clips
  • Transcript
  • Raw video download

While this is processing, you can explore other features of Zync. For example, you can connect your YouTube and LinkedIn accounts to automate sharing your content, streamlining your distribution process.

Convert Existing Content [10:07]

Another interesting feature is the ability to convert existing content into video ideas. I tried this out with some notes from a previous episode of my Taco Truck Roundup. Zync took these notes and generated a new video script focused on one of the tools I had reviewed.

Convert Existing Content feature:

  • Input existing content (blog posts, notes, etc.)
  • Zync generates a new video script
  • Useful for repurposing content across platforms

This feature could be a game-changer for repurposing your existing content into short-form videos. Imagine turning your blog posts or podcast episodes into a series of engaging short videos!

Answer Audience Questions [11:13]

Zync also has a feature for creating videos that answer audience questions. You simply enter a topic, and Zync generates a script that explains that topic. I tried this with “lifetime deals” and got a decent starting point for a video explaining the concept to newcomers.

Answer Audience Questions feature:

  • Enter a topic or question
  • Zync generates an explanatory script
  • Good starting point for educational content

While the AI-generated content is a good starting point, you’ll want to add your own expertise and personality to really make the content shine. This feature can be particularly useful for creating FAQ videos or addressing common questions in your niche.

Content Kit Deep Dive [12:45]

By this point, our original Content Kit was ready. Let’s take a closer look at what Zync produced:

Social media content:

  • Twitter post with custom image
  • TikTok clips optimized for the platform

The social media posts look pretty good. For example, the tweet includes an image with the text “Unleash your creativity with Ghost” along with a picture from my profile. This kind of ready-made content can be a huge time-saver for busy creators.

Short video features:

  • Automatically added captions
  • Graphics overlays
  • B-roll footage
  • Zoom effects

The short video is where things get really interesting. Zync automatically added captions, graphics, and even B-roll footage. It even threw in some zoom effects! While there were a few quirks (like zooming in on an unflattering angle), overall, I was impressed with the quality of the edit, especially considering how little effort I had to put in.

Plans & Pricing [16:56]

Now, let’s talk about the AppSumo deal for Zync. There are three tiers available:

  1. Tier 1 ($39):
    • 8 videos per month
    • 1 creator seat
  2. Tier 2 ($99):
    • 24 videos per month
    • 1 creator seat
    • 3 marketer seats
    • Remove Zync watermark
    • YouTube integration
  3. Tier 3 ($149):
    • Unlimited videos
    • 1 creator seat
    • Unlimited marketer seats
    • Custom domain integration

For this review, I used the Tier 2 plan. The main advantages of this tier are the ability to remove the Zync watermark and the YouTube integration. If you’re serious about using this for your business, I’d recommend at least going for Tier 2.

Key differences:

  • Creator seats: Can record videos
  • Marketer seats: Can create sessions and ideas for the creator to record

Conclusion [18:60]

After putting Zync through its paces, I have to say I’m genuinely impressed. Unlike many browser-based video tools I’ve tried in the past, Zync really delivers on its promises.

Zync’s strengths:

  • Focus on short-form content (under 3 minutes)
  • Impressive automated editing features
  • AI-generated B-roll, captions, and graphics
  • Streamlined process from ideation to publication

Areas for improvement:

  • Angle selection for zoom effects
  • More customization options for AI-generated content

If you’re looking to up your short-form video game, especially for platforms like YouTube Shorts, TikTok, or Instagram Reels, Zync is definitely worth considering. It streamlines the entire process from ideation to publication, potentially saving you hours of work.

Final rating: 8.2 out of 10
